Medical Receptionist

Location: Springfield, IL 62781
Position: Receptionist
Pay Rate: $22.50/hr
Duration: 13 weeks
Expected Shift: 40hrs/week
Onsite position; Hours 7:00a- 4:00p or 6:30a-3:30p. There may be some need for flexibility, but this would be the normal schedule.
JOB SUMMARY
Position Summary:
Perform basic office and clerical duties requiring customer service, judgment, and knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
Schedules, registers, and check-in patients into the radiation therapy department for consultations and treatments. Ensures all documentation is present for the nurses and physicians.
Completes filing of dictated reports, x-ray reports, lab results, correspondence, etc. for patients of Radiation Therapy in the Regional Cancer Center.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
• High school diploma required.
Experience:
• Six months or more of prior public contact experience or health care facility experience preferred.
• Must have office experience of at least 3-12 months, including use of computer.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Must possess good basic computer and typing skills (40 – 50 wpm). Ability to work with computerized medical records and scheduling software.
• Must possess excellent communication and human relations skills.
• Physical ability to participate in patient transfer and transport.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Serves as receptionist and greets patients and families arriving for care.
2. Handles all incoming telephone calls in a pleasant manner.
3. Schedules patient appointments with physicians and departmental personnel.
4. Completes patient registration and validates patient’s insurance and personal health information.

6. Obtains records and information need by radiotherapists.
7. Prepares and maintains patient records for the nursing staff and physicians.
8. Scan and categorize patient documents into the patient’s electronic medical record.
9. Promotes guest relations at all times.
10. Contacts patient insurance company to determine if treatments and services are medically necessary.
11. Works with physicians and hospital staff to determine type of treatment codes to gain prior authorization on from the patient’s insurance company.
12. Answers questions and complaints from the public and makes referral to appropriate personnel.
13. Promotes smooth running of the department by coordinating patient schedules, departmental resources, and availability of clinical resources.
14. Willingly helps with patient assistance requests from outside the department, by using great patient experience techniques.
15. Performs all other duties as assigned.
