An Engineering Technician position just opened up in Pasadena, CA at the JPL/NASA facility. In this role you will be responsible for cutting out patterns and sewing multiple layers of thermal barrier fabrics for protecting electromechanical equipment in space.  You must have +8 years of similar experience; HS Diploma/GED Required, and be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder.

Position: Engineering Technician

Pay Rate: $24 – 63/hr DOE
Duration: 18 months or longer

Work schedule: 9/80

Job Description:

  • cutting out patterns and sewing multiple layers of thermal barrier fabrics for protecting electromechanical equipment in space. 

 

Required Skills:

  • Typically requires a High School diploma with 8 years of related experience; related and required training; Associates with 4 years of related experience; Bachelors with 1 years of related experience; related required training.
  • Minimum of 6 years as a pattern maker and sewing machine operator.
  • Must have advanced understanding, technical expertise and experience in the following areas: Electro-Mechanical Assembly, with strong emphasis on thermal blanket fabrication, installation, alignment and testing also strong knowledge of thermal blanket properties and grounding procedures. Safe handling and bonding of delicate components, including all surface prep and flight hardware in a controlled environment.
  • Ability to work from prints and sketches and use precision measuring devices, as well as all shop and hand tools.
  • Experience working in 100-10,000 clean room, and Hi bay protocol.
  • Advanced understanding of applicable policies, procedures, and practices in handling Flight Hardware.
  • Ability to work with different solvents on a daily basis.
  • Work with limited supervision requiring no instructions on routine work, and general instructions on new assignments.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity, necessary to work with miniaturized systems or components.
  • Must be able to work at remote sites for extended periods.
  • Skilled in operations of all shop tools, including soldering and crimping.
  • Ability to work closely with team members, long hours in a sometimes-high stress environment.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, word processing, web searches) for component information.

 

At a minimum, a 7-year background check, education verification, employment verification, and drug screen will be conducted upon hire. Your suitability for employment is contingent upon successfully passing these required pre-employment screenings.

Our client is a research and development lab federally funded by NASA and managed by Caltech. Manages many of NASA's robotic missions exploring Earth, the solar system, and our universe.
