A Look Back – APR Celebrates 35 Years

APR-Consulting-35th-Anniversary-Kickoff-20151026-7-IMG_7042

APR celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2015. In comparison to other companies, that’s older than Amazon, Verizon, and the Simpsons TV show. Employees from all over the country flew in to southern California to celebrate with APR on this big occasion.

APR Consulting 35th Anniversary Kickoff

To start the one day event, APR hosted a kick-off meeting where highlights from the previous year were discussed and goals for 2016 were set. After a filling lunch from APR’s favorite restaurant, everyone participated in team building games and activities.  Later, everyone headed over to a local restaurant to continue the celebration with food, music, and giveaways. Grammy nominated artist Steven Yabarra was the music entertainment for the event. To close the evening, a special 35th anniversary frame that was signed by every corporate employee in the company, was given to APR’s Founders, Linda Stone, Owner and CEO, and Darryl Stone, President.

After the celebration, some employees were asked a few questions on what APR’s anniversary means to them. What we found out was that not only was the 35th anniversary a big deal for our company, but for our employees as well.

APR Consulting 35th Anniversary Kickoff

For the past 35 years, Linda and Darryl’s leadership has played a big role towards the success of APR. Their hard work and dedication continue to have an impact on the company.  When they founded the company in 1980 they had a vision and 35 years later, that vision continues to come to life.

  • “I think a big factor that’s attributed to Linda and Darryl’s success is the fact that they complement each other by being complete polar opposites of each other with a shared passion and commitment to do what’s best for the company. The visionary vs. the conservative. That is a good balance to have in leading an organization.” – Kevin Jones, Vice President
  • “….Linda and Darryl are visionaries.  Their humble beginnings inspire all of us to believe that we can all be successful if we put our minds to it.” – Enrico Gonzalo, CFO
  • “I think Linda and Darryl are successful leaders because of their commitment to each other and the common goal of growing APR…” – Andrea Demons, Service Delivery Manager

Part of their vision was creating an environment for their employees that offered flexibility, growth opportunities, and a family-like atmosphere. Today, APR is a sought out place to work with no end in sight.

  • “I love my job and I’m fortunate to work in a company where there is flexibility and opportunity.  In my eight years with APR, I’ve learned that APR is “family” and that I’m surrounded by great people and leaders.” – Heidi Gonzalo, Operations Manager
  • “I feel proud to work for APR because not only have they been in business for 35 years, they like to work with established companies who have been around a long time. It’s a great place to work. I’m always happy to share with others what we do.” – Irene Ruiz, Account Manager
  • “Our people systems and our computer systems are superior. Our personnel are eager and capable of doing an awesome job.” – Darryl Stone, President

When looking at the success of APR over the past 35 years, it cannot be narrowed down to just one thing. Linda and Darryl attribute much of the company’s success to their leadership team, employees, and clients.

  • “The leadership of APR has a “do whatever it takes to make it work” attitude. We have dedicated, talented people who are committed to continuing to improve our culture and make it fun, family-friendly place.” – Aaron Stone, COO & FSO
  • “Remaining steadfast in our commitment to maintaining long-term partnerships with our clients, taking a conservative approach to risk, retaining top-performing staff, the ability to be minimally affected by downturns in the economy.” – Kevin Jones, Vice President

When looking at the past 35 years, Linda and Darryl both have a few favorite moments.

  • “We started from nothing and had to research the best ways to do things successfully and accomplish results that made an impact. We had to build systems from scratch in order to do all the things we do now that are necessary to be in compliance and keep employees happy.” – Darryl Stone, President
  • “My favorite moments are when APR receives recognition from the business community not only in California but nationwide.” – Linda Stone, Founder and CEO

As for the future, employees see it as promising. APR works hard to hire talented individuals who are dedicated and committed to making APR successful and cultivate an environment of growth.

  • “I would like to see APR continue its growth and become a fortune 500 company.” – Andrea Demons, Service Deliver Manager
  • “In 10 years, we are doing $100M+ a year in business, while Linda and Darryl are in Hawaii sipping their Pina Coladas and happily retired.  Also, many of our current employees will be part of Senior Management.” – Enrico Gonzalo, CFO
  • “We grow and not only are recognized as a leader stateside, but have an international presence as well. The best is yet to come.” – Aaron Stone, COO & FSO
  • “I’d like to see APR as a strong partner with our clients for as long as THEY are in business.” – Linda Stone, CEO & Founder

APR Consulting 35th Anniversary Kickoff

In closing, a final message from our Founder and CEO, Linda Stone:

“APR’s 35 years in business is a great milestone.  We lived and breathed APR every moment of our lives since we incorporated 35 years ago and very proud to celebrate its 35 years in business. I know that the next generation of very dynamic leaders and movers at APR will make sure APR remains solid and successful for many more years to come.”

This year’s anniversary was a special one for APR. Thank you to our clients and employees for your support. We look forward to working with you in the future.

APR’s Fresh Start Program

By: Vanessa Chavez – HR Assistant

APR Consulting, Inc.’s Wellness Program is proud to announce that they have begun their amazing new program called Fresh Start Program. This program is all about inspiring employees to tackle their bad habits such as drinking, smoking, overeating, or any other bad habits that could affect their health. Quitting a bad habit is never easy, and doing it alone seems almost impossible.

With this program employees will receive support from their peers and APR, resources, advice, and group or individual meetings to make sure employees do not lose faith in themselves. At the end of the program all participants will be rewarded with a healthy lunch paid by APR.

The Fresh Start Program is yearlong in order to give employees plenty of time to experiment with different approaches to quitting their bad habit. We do not expect employees to give up their bad habit completely on the first day, instead we recommend they take small steps, and assign themselves reachable goals each month. No one is perfect, but we do know APR employees are tough enough to accomplish great things. We should all feel inspired to take the necessary steps to better health, and APR believes you can do it too.

Do you have a bad habit you’re looking to quit? Follow us Facebook and Twitter for some Fresh Start tips to help you along your journey. Let’s Start Fresh. #FreshStart

Let’s Get Moving!

Every New Year’s Eve you may have made the same New Year’s resolution, “I will exercise more” or “I will try to be healthier this year.” Sure, you may start off great the first two months, but by the time you reach March, your falling back to your old ways. Don’t worry, you are not alone. It is difficult to find motivation or support to help you commit to your goals. Because of this APR Consulting, Inc.’s Wellness Program has created a “Get Moving Challenge” for its employees.

The “Get Moving Challenge” is a 5-week friendly competition where employees keep track of the steps you take from Monday through Sunday on a weekly log. Employees are entered into a weekly drawing based on how many active days they have and at the end of the month, there will be a grand prize winner.

Exercising has many benefits such as it helps control your weight, combats health conditions and diseases, improves your mood, boosts energy, the list could go on and on.  Which is why APR Consulting, Inc.’s Wellness Program would like to encourage you to “Get Moving”. Grab a buddy, join a group, or just lift yourself up, and get out there. Start small, make realistic goals for yourself, and do something you’ll enjoy. It may be difficult, but YOU are worth it. Please see below for motivation tips:

  1. Set your workout clothes and equipment where you can see them
  2. Give yourself a real reward: i.e. a smoothie or allow yourself to watch an episode from your favorite show
  3. Sign a commitment contract: pledge to yourself you will work out 30 minutes 3 times a week and have a friend or family member be there to witness you sign this pledge
  4. Think Positive: i.e. Instead of complaining on how early it is, think about how nice it will be to see the sun rise or the feeling of morning air on your face.
  5. Give yourself realistic goals
  6. Surround yourself by people who will support you
  7. Get a work out buddy
  8. Do an activity you would enjoy and mix it up throughout the week
  9. Get sufficient workout clothes
  10. Eat healthy

A Recruiter’s Perspective

Recruiter

If you’ve never worked with a recruiting firm in your job search, applying for jobs at XYZ Company could seem intimidating.  But what if you could ask a recruiter any question you wanted? From interviews and resumes, to what it is recruiters actually do; we sat three of our top recruiters in on a roundtable discussion and asked them some of these questions. Here are the first four questions we asked them.

resume

Question 1: You receive or find resumes from two different people who have the EXACT experience and qualifications you’re seeking to fulfill a client’s job. What would make one resume stand out over the other?

“Personally, I like a resume that is clean, thought out and not thrown together. As a recruiter, I see hundreds of resumes a day. For me, it’s important to find your experience quickly. I shouldn’t have to search through paragraphs or pages to find your experience. Bullet points are always a plus compared to paragraphs.” – Michelle

Phone Interview

Question 2: What makes one job seeker stand out in a phone interview compared to others?

“Personality. This is their opportunity to sell themselves. For instance, if I’m hiring for an HR Coordinator position, the nature of the job requires you to be friendly and personable. If you’re dull and giving me one word answers, then I might move on to the next job seeker.” – Irene

“Attention and Professionalism. If I call you to talk about a job opportunity, I want to know that you are giving me your time and focus, without having the TV blaring in the background.” – Michelle

Recruiter

Question 3: What advice would you give to a job seeker on how to successfully work with a staffing/recruiting firm?

“Be open minded when working with a staffing firm. You never know where a job opportunity might take you.” – Jackie

“Treat the staffing firm as your actual employer. We work directly with the company you’re trying to get a job with and at the end of the day, with a temporary or contract job, we will be your direct employer.” – Michelle

Temporary-jobs-Wanted

Question 4: What would you say are the advantages of taking a temporary/contract assignment?

“It’s an opportunity for you to get more experience and exposure in an industry you’re looking to work in. You can build your experience and skill sets that might open up more opportunities in the long run.” – Jackie
