A Systems Engineer I (DSN Scheduler) position just opened up at JPL/NASA in Pasadena, CA. In this role you will be responsible for the development, planning, and negotiation of Deep Space Network (DSN) antenna tracking schedules for various spacecraft. To be considered for this position you must have a technical degree (BS), +2 years of strong customer service experience, strong verbal and written communication skills, and be a US Citizen.

Position: System Engineer I
Pay Rate: $38.00/hr
Duration: 18 months
Schedule: 9/80 (You’ll be working 80 hours over 9 days, instead of the traditional 10; So for example, you may work 9-hour days Monday through Thursday, and on Fridays, you either work an 8-hour day or take regular day off.)

SUMMARY
We have an opening for a Mission Systems Engineer 1 who will be responsible for the development, planning, and negotiation of specific Deep Space Network (DSN) resources for multiple flight missions. The person will: attend mission-planning meetings to gain understanding of mission requirements and to resolve mission-specific issues; integrate knowledge of mission and spacecraft requirements with tracking scheduling requirements; interact frequently with internal and external mission engineers, scientists and all levels of management to ensure that mission requirements are met; and communicate final DSN resource allocations with mission personnel. In addition, the person will assist with providing solutions to technical and engineering problems as they relate to scheduling the DSN, determine specific mission DSN resource allocations that meet project sequencing or other project specific needs, compute and analyze multi-mission DSN scheduling data and negotiate with other mission operations engineers to finalize DSN resource allocations, and develop and deliver the mission tracking schedule and display it in graphical format.

Responsibilities:

  • Gain understanding of mission DSN tracking requirements.
  • Compute and analyze multi-mission DSN scheduling data and negotiate with other system engineers to finalize DSN tracking schedule.
  • Interact frequently with mission engineers, scientists, and all levels of management.
  • Deliver error-free products to spacecraft team.
  • Provide solutions to technical and engineering problems as they relate to scheduling the DSN.

Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical Science or related technical discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with peers 
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet commitments with high quality products.
