Traffic Modeling Engineer – Space Force
Our DoD/Aerospace client is looking to fill a Traffic Modeling Engineer – Space Force position within their high-technology defense systems team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support Space Development Agency (SDA) programs by modeling and analyzing satellite-to-ground data flows to enable mission operations and missile tracking within advanced space architectures. The position is primarily based in Scottsdale, AZ, with additional location flexibility and hybrid work options available.
Location: Scottsdale, AZ (On-site/Hybrid available)
Additional locations: Huntsville, AL; Grand Forks, ND; Chantilly, VA)
Position: Traffic Modeling Engineer – Space Force
Contract Length: 12–24 months with possibility of going direct
Pay: $73.51 per hour
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering or related STEM field with 5+ years of experience OR Master’s Degree with 3+ years of experience
Schedule: First Shift
Clearance Requirement: Active Secret Clearance required (U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain TS/SCI with Polygraph)
In this role, you will use your technical and interpersonal skills to:
- Perform systems engineering and traffic modeling of satellite-to-ground communication flows.
- Decompose system requirements into network, system, and data flow models.
- Support satellite scheduling and mission operations, including missile tracking activities.
- Analyze tracking data to validate and optimize traffic models.
- Contribute to system integration, testing, and deployment of ground systems.
- Support operations centers, infrastructure, and network performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on development, testing, and sustainment efforts.
- Identify opportunities to apply AI and automation for modeling optimization and process improvement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in systems engineering and data/traffic modeling environments.
- Strong understanding of communication networks or satellite system modeling.
- Knowledge of satellite-to-ground RF communication protocols.
- Familiarity with packet routing, prioritization, and end-to-end traffic analysis.
- Understanding of network performance and data flow optimization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills for technical discussions and reporting.
Preferred:
- Experience with missile tracking systems or space-based sensing platforms.
- Background in space, aerospace, or defense programs.
- Experience with network traffic modeling and system-level optimization.
- Familiarity with mission-critical or DoD environments.
