Our DoD/Aerospace client is looking to fill a Sr Advanced FPGA/Firmware Engineer position that just opened in Middletown, RI (or Canonsburg, PA). In this role, you will support the development, verification, integration, and maintenance of FPGA and firmware solutions for advanced Torpedo Systems programs, while serving as a key engineering resource supporting product deployments, troubleshooting, and customer-facing technical activities. To be considered, you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field plus 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree plus 6+ years of relevant experience.

Location: Middletown, RI (or Canonsburg, PA)
Position: Sr Advanced FPGA/Firmware Engineer
Contract: 12–24 months or longer
Pay: $85.71/hour
Shift: 1st Shift
Work Schedule: Onsite

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, verify, and document FPGA and firmware solutions for advanced defense systems
  • Participate in FPGA architecture development, system simulation, and detailed design activities
  • Define module interfaces and support all aspects of FPGA device design and simulation
  • Perform synthesis, place and route, timing analysis, and power utilization evaluations
  • Verify test results and analyze system performance
  • Develop and present technical requirements, designs, concepts, and engineering solutions to management, customers, and project teams
  • Support FPGA process improvements and engineering best practices
  • Generate technical engineering products throughout the development lifecycle
  • Support hardware integration, troubleshooting, installation, and corrective action efforts
  • Serve as an onsite engineering representative for customer support and field activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field
  • 8+ years of FPGA, firmware, or embedded systems experience (or Master’s Degree with 6+ years)
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
  • FPGA design and verification experience
  • Experience working in Linux environments
  • Programming experience with C
  • Experience with multithreaded software development
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FPGA architecture, simulation, synthesis, timing closure, and power optimization
  • Git and Software Source Control tools
  • Hardware troubleshooting using:
    • Digital Multimeters (DMM)
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Power Supplies
    • Function Generators
  • Embedded firmware development
  • System integration and hardware/software debugging
  • Customer-facing engineering support experience
  • Strong technical documentation and presentation skills
  • Defense, aerospace, naval, or underwater systems experience
