Digital Design Engineer
Our DoD/Aerospace client is looking to fill a Digital Design Engineer position within their high-technology defense systems team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the design, development, verification, and validation of advanced digital electronics and FPGA-based systems used in mission-critical defense applications. The position is based in Manassas, VA and is fully on-site.

Contract Length: 12–24 months with possibility of going direct
Pay: $67.39 per hour
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field with 5+ years of experience OR Master’s Degree with 3+ years of experience
Schedule: First Shift
Clearance Requirement: Secret Clearance Obtainable (U.S. citizenship required)
In this role, you will use your technical and interpersonal skills to:
- Design advanced digital electronics including FPGA development and circuit card design.
- Define, design, verify, and document digital hardware solutions.
- Determine architecture, perform system simulation, and establish detailed design approaches.
- Define module interfaces and support all aspects of device design and simulation.
- Evaluate design processes including high-level design, synthesis, place and route, timing analysis, and power utilization.
- Develop and execute test and simulation plans to validate functionality and performance.
- Verify test results and analyze system performance.
- Perform verification and validation activities on target hardware platforms.
- Provide technical leadership on interdisciplinary engineering projects.
- Collaborate with systems and software engineering teams to ensure system-level functionality.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation technologies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong experience with FPGA development and digital circuit design.
- Knowledge of all phases of circuit card and hardware design.
- Experience with hardware simulation, verification, and validation methodologies.
- Understanding of synthesis, place and route, timing analysis, and power optimization.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and engineering concepts.
- Experience handling complex technical assignments with minimal supervision.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience reverse engineering existing hardware designs and modifying functionality to meet new requirements.
- Strong collaboration skills with systems and software engineering teams.
- Understanding of System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures with embedded processors on FPGA platforms.
Preferred:
- Experience programming embedded processors within FPGA-based systems.
- Knowledge of defense, aerospace, or mission-critical hardware development environments.
- Experience supporting interdisciplinary engineering teams through full product lifecycle development.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
