Our DoD/Aerospace client is looking to fill a Technical Writer / Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Training Specialist position that just opened in Manassas, VA. In this role, you will support U.S. Navy programs by providing technical writing, subject matter expertise, and training development focused on submarine fire control and weapons systems. To be considered, you will have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience) along with prior Navy Fire Control Technician (FT) submarine experience and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire.

Contract: 12 -24 months with possibility of going direct
Pay: $48.96/hour
Schedule: First Shift

CLEARANCE: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire

In this role you will use your technical and interpersonal skills to:

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for submarine fire control and weapons systems, specifically AN/BYG1
  • Assist in defining, reviewing, and analyzing system requirements for enhancements and modifications
  • Develop, edit, and maintain operations, maintenance, and training documentation
  • Support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) functions and technical documentation reviews
  • Create and validate procedures for technical manuals and training materials
  • Validate test procedures during lab and submarine testing events
  • Provide technical input to project plans, schedules, and deliverables
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support Navy customers in lab and shipboard environments
  • Travel as required to support program needs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
    OR equivalent experience (minimum 4 years of job-related experience)

  • Additional 2+ years of related experience beyond degree requirements
    OR Master’s degree

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in engineering support, technical writing, or training development
  • Prior Navy Fire Control Technician (FT) submarine experience required
  • Qualified Master Training Specialist preferred
  • U.S. citizenship is required

Clearance Requirements:

  • Department of Defense active Secret security clearance is required at time of hire
  • Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain access to classified information

Knowledge Skills And Abilities:

  • Hands-on experience with AN/BYG1 Submarine Combat System
  • Experience developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using S1000D
  • Familiarity with DoD documentation standards such as MIL-STD-3001, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-STD-24784, and MIL-STD-40051-2C
  • Ability to prepare documentation in multiple formats including Word, PDF, HTML, and XML/SGML
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and XMLSpy
  • Strong understanding of military and commercial system requirements and specifications
  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments is a plus
  • Experience developing Navy training documentation and applying instructional design methodologies
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in high-pressure environments
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
